Celebrating Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day

Say thanks to a dietitian! Today is Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day and everyone at VMS is grateful to have dedicated Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) as a part of our team. We appreciate their commitment to helping patients every single day! RDNs make a powerful impact in the healthcare community. RDNs are leading experts in food and nutrition and help to improve the health in not only patients, but overall communities. RDNs have degrees in nutrition, dietetics, public health, and other related fields from an accredited college or university. In addition to the conventional education, they must also complete an internship and pass an examination. RDNs work in multiple settings helping individuals make unique, positive lifestyle changes. They are found in hospitals, schools, public health clinics, nursing homes, fitness center, food management, and more. March 2008 marked the first year this day was dedicated to celebrate and commemorate the dedication of RDNs as they advocate for advancing the nutritional status of Americans as well as people are the world. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics created a day during National Nutrition Month to help increase the awareness of the importance of RDNs and bring recognition to the life changing work that they do!
